Our mission
The Tom Sawyer Foundation was created to keep Tom’s legacy as a teacher and coach alive. Honoring Tom’s lifework, we seek to support exceptional students dedicated to athletics, invested in our community, and prepared to become our future educators.
Support our mission
For 28 years, Tom profoundly impacted the lives of countless students. To carry forward his legacy, we invite you to contribute to the Tom Sawyer Memorial Scholarship. Your donation will help high school seniors pursuing degrees in education, and ensure that we carry on Tom’s work in his absence.
If you’re a part of the Milford or Amherst communities, chances are you knew Tom Sawyer. Maybe he was your Social Studies teacher at Souhegan High School. Perhaps he coached your wrestling, football, or soccer team. Maybe you knew him from the gym, where he went every morning before school. Or maybe he was the friendly person who asked you about the college sweatshirt you were wearing—he probably knew your mascot!
Tom was a pillar in our communities for almost thirty years. He taught generations of students how to become informed and interested citizens, and brought out the best in them. Above all, Tom was committed to us, his family. We witnessed every day how dedicated he was to the many people in his life, and we are proud to honor him by carrying forward his legacy.
